Uno de nuestros visitantes nos hizo una pregunta importante. Es una pregunta sobre cuánto tiempo se tarda en recuperarse del trauma de ser estafado.

Lo primero que debes recordar es esto. La mayoría de las personas NO se recuperarán de su trauma.

Hay tres tipos básicos de víctimas: aquellos en negación; los que están llenos de ira, de cólera y de odio; Y luego están los realistas.

Los que están en negación no pueden aceptar completamente lo que se hizo. Porque no pueden aceptarlo, no pueden perdonarse a sí mismos. Ocultan la estafa como si fuera un pequeño secreto sucio. Nunca intentan trabajar a través de él.

Aquellos que están llenos de ira o rabia nunca se recuperan realmente, porque han dejado que su ira tome el control de sus vidas.

Sólo los realistas pueden recuperarse por completo. Porque pueden aceptar que esto sucedió, y aunque pueden estar enojados consigo mismos y con el estafador, están dispuestos a dejar ir la ira. Ellos quieren estar sobre eso. Se unirán a un grupo de apoyo real o buscarán ayuda profesional para superar el trauma emocional.

Nadie volverá a ser el mismo después de este tipo de experiencia, y todos tienen una experiencia ligeramente diferente debido a quiénes son, pero puedes volver a conectarte contigo mismo y con tu vida. De esta manera, todos ustedes son como soldados que regresan a casa de la guerra. Los realistas son los que saben que no hay respuestas fáciles: se necesita mucho trabajo y tiempo.

En nuestra experiencia de ayudar a miles a recuperarse. Se tarda entre 18 y 24 meses en recuperarse emocionalmente, al menos hasta el punto en que puede decir que no está pensando en los estafadores todos los días. Pero toma en promedio alrededor de 4 años recuperarse financieramente, y esos tienen suerte porque algunos nunca lo hacen.

Nuestros grupos de apoyo están orientados a los realistas que quieren recuperarse. La buena noticia es que casi todos los realistas lo han logrado.

Statement About Victim Blaming

Some of our articles discuss various aspects of victims. This is both about better understanding victims (the science of victimology) and their behaviors and psychology. This helps us to educate victims/survivors about why these crimes happened and to not blame themselves, better develop recovery programs, and to help victims avoid scams in the future. At times this may sound like blaming the victim, but it does not blame scam victims, we are simply explaining the hows and whys of the experience victims have.

These articles, about the Psychology of Scams or Victim Psychology – meaning that all humans have psychological or cognitive characteristics in common that can either be exploited or work against us – help us all to understand the unique challenges victims face before, during, and after scams, fraud, or cybercrimes. These sometimes talk about some of the vulnerabilities the scammers exploit. Victims rarely have control of them or are even aware of them, until something like a scam happens and then they can learn how their mind works and how to overcome these mechanisms.
