The Scammer’s Written Description Is:

My name is Karina Ariana Rynaldee, I’m nearly 22 (Februrary 25) and have a pair of 5 year old twins (a boy and a girl) named Serafina Marie and Simyn Mathew. A few main things you should know about me are these:

1) I don’t go by “Karina” or “Ariana”. Almost everyone I know calls me “Kari” (CAR-ee) or “Karia” (CAR-ee-uh).

2) My kids come before anything else in my life and if you don’t accept that then I won’t even consider you as a friend.

3) I am deaf. I lost my hearing to Meningitis when I was 12. (both of my kids are hearing but fluent in American and German Sign Language

[ASL & GSL])

4) I speak English, ASL, GSL, French, German, Italian, Russian, and Spanish.

5) I’ve graduated from college and I majored in Psychology and Sociology (my minors were, ironically because of my deafness, music theory, music history, musical performance, and teaching….. so I can teach music)

6) My family died when I was very young and I was adopted. Karina Rynaldee is my REAL name. My BIRTH name. In the messed up thing we call a legal system, my name was changed to something different (not Karina Rynaldee) until I turned 18, when I changed it back.

7) I’m a Foster Care Social Worker, just starting out.

8) Finally,  I will not even give you a chance if you don’t display at least enough intelligence to spell correctly.  I understand if you have a FEW grammer or spelling mistakes or if you’re not a native English speaker but other than that, come on, we’re all (hopefully) adults here; now let us sound like it, not like teenagers texting, “ur my prfct gurl, mur evrythng ive ben lokng 4! Plz msg me bck!” (Yes, someone REALLYsent that to me.) Not many things bother me, I’m pretty laid back, but if you can’t take the time to type “you” rather than “u,” then please know, I’m not the girl for you.

Music Rap, Country, Rock, 80’s Rock, you name it, I love it.
Movies: Horror movies and comedies. especially comedic horror films (kind of redundent, I know)
Television: Switched at Birth, Charmed, The Walking Dead, Top Guns,American Guns, The Lying Game, anything to do w/ NASCAR
Games: Black Ops: Ghosts, GTA5, Left 4 Dead 2, Minecraft,

[This is almost a perfect identity fraud – IP address is from Nigeria – this “person” holds a job that requires a 4 year college degree, yet is 21 with 2 children]

A Note About Labeling!

We often use the term ‘scam victim’ in our articles, but this is a convenience to help those searching for information in search engines like Google. It is just a convenience and has no deeper meaning. If you have come through such an experience, YOU are a Survivor! It was not your fault. You are not alone! Axios!

A Question of Trust

At the SCARS Institute, we invite you to do your own research on the topics we speak about and publish, Our team investigates the subject being discussed, especially when it comes to understanding the scam victims-survivors experience. You can do Google searches but in many cases, you will have to wade through scientific papers and studies. However, remember that biases and perspectives matter and influence the outcome. Regardless, we encourage you to explore these topics as thoroughly as you can for your own awareness.

Statement About Victim Blaming

Some of our articles discuss various aspects of victims. This is both about better understanding victims (the science of victimology) and their behaviors and psychology. This helps us to educate victims/survivors about why these crimes happened and to not blame themselves, better develop recovery programs, and to help victims avoid scams in the future. At times this may sound like blaming the victim, but it does not blame scam victims, we are simply explaining the hows and whys of the experience victims have.

These articles, about the Psychology of Scams or Victim Psychology – meaning that all humans have psychological or cognitive characteristics in common that can either be exploited or work against us – help us all to understand the unique challenges victims face before, during, and after scams, fraud, or cybercrimes. These sometimes talk about some of the vulnerabilities the scammers exploit. Victims rarely have control of them or are even aware of them, until something like a scam happens and then they can learn how their mind works and how to overcome these mechanisms.

Articles like these help victims and others understand these processes and how to help prevent them from being exploited again or to help them recover more easily by understanding their post-scam behaviors. Learn more about the Psychology of Scams at www.ScamPsychology.org
