FAQ: How Do You Properly Report Scammers?
It is essential that law enforcement knows about scams & scammers, even though there is nothing (in most cases) that they can do.
Always report scams involving money lost or where you received money to:
- Local Police – ask them to take an “informational” police report – say you need it for your insurance
- Your National Police or FBI (www.IC3.gov)
- The Scars Worldwide Reporting Network HERE or on www.Anyscam.com
This helps your government understand the problem, and allows law enforcement to add scammers on watch lists worldwide.

A Note About Labeling!
We often use the term ‘scam victim’ in our articles, but this is a convenience to help those searching for information in search engines like Google. It is just a convenience and has no deeper meaning. If you have come through such an experience, YOU are a Survivor! It was not your fault. You are not alone! Axios!
A Question of Trust
At the SCARS Institute, we invite you to do your own research on the topics we speak about and publish, Our team investigates the subject being discussed, especially when it comes to understanding the scam victims-survivors experience. You can do Google searches but in many cases, you will have to wade through scientific papers and studies. However, remember that biases and perspectives matter and influence the outcome. Regardless, we encourage you to explore these topics as thoroughly as you can for your own awareness.
Statement About Victim Blaming
Some of our articles discuss various aspects of victims. This is both about better understanding victims (the science of victimology) and their behaviors and psychology. This helps us to educate victims/survivors about why these crimes happened and to not blame themselves, better develop recovery programs, and to help victims avoid scams in the future. At times this may sound like blaming the victim, but it does not blame scam victims, we are simply explaining the hows and whys of the experience victims have.
These articles, about the Psychology of Scams or Victim Psychology – meaning that all humans have psychological or cognitive characteristics in common that can either be exploited or work against us – help us all to understand the unique challenges victims face before, during, and after scams, fraud, or cybercrimes. These sometimes talk about some of the vulnerabilities the scammers exploit. Victims rarely have control of them or are even aware of them, until something like a scam happens and then they can learn how their mind works and how to overcome these mechanisms.
Articles like these help victims and others understand these processes and how to help prevent them from being exploited again or to help them recover more easily by understanding their post-scam behaviors. Learn more about the Psychology of Scams at www.ScamPsychology.org

I was contacted by Christen Henry. He claims to be widowed for 8 years with 16 he is soon in boarding school, while he was in a 4 year contract with the UN stationed on an oil vessel outside of Australia. Very smooth talker and romantic. Then he started sending me pictures of him that I now know is Hubertus.
When I started researching I discovered so many name and accounts with the same photos. “Christen” claimed his FB acct had been hacked and that was why he was no longer on FB. When I found Hubertus, I noticed his account also had the same photos as well as another”friend” by the name of Lalit Kumar. Amazing that Hubertus had a friend that shares the same pictures under a different name. It makes me wonder if Hubertus is also not part of the scam.
We are sorry, but this is a standard scam story. They are all just stolen photos and fake identities. The real person is not involved.

[EDITED DUE TO POLICY VIOLATION]
I am sure Uwe Hubertus Knoedsleder doesnt excists at all. The man of the pictures of is of my friend I know already for 7 years, an American man, never to have asked 1 euro from me. I know his pics are used by Ghanian scammers and I think they have used the name Uwe Hubertus to make it possible to scam women in Germany. I am from Holland and I am busy to figure out now if this man, Uwe Hubertus Knoedsleder really exists in Germany, I also wonder if Romancescam has figured that out by themselves. But anyway, never pay money when these pics show up, as it are scammers from Ghana, I even know who they are. For scammed people in Germany, please go to the police and ask them to trace Uwe Humbertus Knoedsleder to make it clear if this man really exists or not. You don´t find any information about him on the internet, and in case he should had been a famous man as mentioned on this website, you should be able to trace him on internet.
Carla, the man is real. The level of denial that your comment expresses is something you should take seriously. If you are unable to accept the truth when you see it, our services will not be of sufficient help for you. We would recommend that you speak with a local trauma counselor.
The gentleman talked to me last week via video call, I heard his voice moving his mouth, the conversation was in English. Now I don’t understand anything at all.
Not understand is actually a good place to start learning. Yes videos are easy to fake and your own biases lead you into believing what is fake. The answers you are looking for are here on this website.
I was contacted by someone using Uwe’s photos. They scammed me out of 95k$ over 4 months. I found out this is a scam too late. Please don’t be a scamming victim too. I was romanced to the nines in order to wheedle more $ from me. Now that I have stopped giving they are getting more persistent and creative. Block all scammers. Don’t engage in conversation with somebody you don’t know personally. It could break your bank and break your heart.
Hello again .i tried several times to submit the correct form for you but each time I was unsuccessful. I think it’s because of the photos but those are the only ones I have. Other than what I outlined in my first comment there isn’t much more I can say. I hope I can still receive information about these romance scoundrels. Great news that a Nigerian gang was arrested but I have no way of knowing weather my scammer was one of them. Thanks for your info keep it coming
I have been chatting to Barry Williams who said he’s in the peace Corp stationed in Yemen. He said he was a general. Widowed 3 yrs ago with a daughter in Ghana. We started chatting in October last year. He quickly professed his love for me by sending me poems every day. We continued chatting on and off till December. During this time he asked me to send him money so he could go home to the US. I kept putting him off and finally he told me our so called love affair was over.. I got as far as writing to his superior Frank Bachmeier who sent me bank details but I did not respond and did not send him 13,000 he was requiring to get Barry out of Yemen. I unfortunately did not keep bank details. During our brief romance Barry first rang me and asked me not to speak. He rang me a few times after that. He sent me pics of himself which turned out to be Uwe Herbertus Knoediseder. I could not believe that this man was a scammer. Until I seen pics of Barry which was indeed uwe. I kept pics of Barry. Could this man purporting to being general Batry Williams in fact be scammed himself or is he the scammer from Nigeria . Barry always said to me everywhere stew which he said was a military phrase. His email is home of williams08@gmail.com. When I was chatting with him it was Williams Family . Note that if he was truly in the military would it not end in mil. If you need or want to know anymore info let me know.

You do realize that his photos have been stolen by scammers – it is not him – right?
Why I posted on here!
Ok, your comment made it sound like you believed the person in the photo was the actual scammer.
