A New Trend In Scamming Is Middle Eastern Refugee Scams
As the chaos spreads the scammers are right there to get their piece!
Scammers are exploiting these poor people and trying to poison legitimate honest help for them.
Of course, as with all charities, only support well known honest organizations.
The main theme is a variation of two different scams:
- 419 Money Scams (like the email below)
- Romance Scams – typically using fake women in a made up refugee camp
Of course, the unspoken secret is how they get access to the internet in these camps.
Here is a typical Refugee Scam Email:
My Dearest,
I am glad that its given me the opportunity to write you. I hope you are fine. May God protect you for me. My dearest i am living in the refugee camp and It is just like one staying in the prison.I hope by Gods grace with your help i will come out here soon.I don’t have any relatives whom i can go to now that my parents introduced me to until now i found my self into this predicament. All my relatives ran away in the middle of that war. The only person i have now is Rev.Pastor Evans Daniel,who is the Reverend Minister in charge of the church in this camp CHRIST DE SAVIOR MISSION. He has been very nice to me since I came here but I am not living with him rather.I am living in the women’s hostel because the camp has two hostels one for men the other for women.The Pastors Telphone number is

As a refugee I don’t have any right or privilege of anything be it money or whatever because it is against the law of this country because of the religion of country. I want to go back to my studies in Medicine, because i only attended two years before the tragic incident that lead to me being in this situation now took place.
Honey, please listen to this, I have my late father’s statement of account and death certificate here with me which I will send to you later, because when he was alive he deposited some amount of money in a leading bank in Europe which he used my name as the next of kin, the amount in question is
$5.3 (five million three hundred US dollars)
So I would like you to help me to transfer this money to your account and from it you can send to me some amount to get your traveling documents to come to your country and live with you.
I kept this secret to people in this camp here, the only person that knows about it is the Reverend because he is like a father to me now. So it the light of the above i will like you to keep it to yourself and please don’t tell it to anyone for I am afraid of loosing my life and the money if people gets to know about it.Remember I am giving you all this information due to the trust and love I reposed on you now.I like honest, understanding and God fearing people, truthful and a man of vision, and hardworking.My favorites,is English is my favorite language but our language is French but I speak English very fluently because both my father and mother studied in Europe.Meanwhile I will like you to call me like I said, i have a lot to tell you.

Statement About Victim Blaming
Some of our articles discuss various aspects of victims. This is both about better understanding victims (the science of victimology) and their behaviors and psychology. This helps us to educate victims/survivors about why these crimes happened and to not blame themselves, better develop recovery programs, and to help victims avoid scams in the future. At times this may sound like blaming the victim, but it does not blame scam victims, we are simply explaining the hows and whys of the experience victims have.
These articles, about the Psychology of Scams or Victim Psychology – meaning that all humans have psychological or cognitive characteristics in common that can either be exploited or work against us – help us all to understand the unique challenges victims face before, during, and after scams, fraud, or cybercrimes. These sometimes talk about some of the vulnerabilities the scammers exploit. Victims rarely have control of them or are even aware of them, until something like a scam happens and then they can learn how their mind works and how to overcome these mechanisms.
