FAQ: How Do You Properly Report Scammers?

It is essential that law enforcement knows about scams & scammers, even though there is nothing (in most cases) that they can do.

Always report scams involving money lost or where you received money to:

  1. Local Police – ask them to take an “informational” police report – say you need it for your insurance
  2. Your National Police or FBI (www.IC3.gov)
  3. The Scars Worldwide Reporting Network HERE or on www.Anyscam.com

This helps your government understand the problem, and allows law enforcement to add scammers on watch lists worldwide.

Yes, almost scammed by this guy, or whoever is using his photo. Said he was in the NDIS or some investigative branch. Very smooth and sexy operator. 2 names he used to receive funds: Deleih Zamani, and April L Clements in Australia. Luckily my bank smelled a rat and stopped the transaction. I feel rather silly now, but hope no-one else is hurt by it or loses their money.

I see you call it African Romance Scammers, but I feel for some reason that this guy might have been Indian, maybe because of the Zamani name, which is Indian. I never actually spoke to him to get any accent, but his terminology was American. I have reported it to Anyscam.com.

Yes, there are vast numbers of Indians, and in fact, romance scammers from countries around the world. Each scammer country has slightly different styles and approaches. So yes it is possible that an Indian fraudster was using the same photos as Africans.

So, if he gave you a better set up you would believe him, correct?
Relationship scams are based upon luring you in, grooming, and manipulating you so that you want to believe. You need to believe. But it is all just lies. None of it is real or true.
So now that you have been told the truth, you have to make a decision to live in the fairy tale castle in this fantasy that will destroy you, or break it off now and stop talking to strangers online.
You are the victim of a scam. It is time to accept that. Please read our 3 Steps for new Scam Victims and do the steps! https://romancescamsnow.com/dating-scams/scars-3-steps-for-new-scam-victims/

Yes, you should assume you are being scammed. Recognizing scammers is a skill that most people do not have. Instead, avoid connecting with strangers unless you know them in the real world. ANYONE that contacts you out of the blue is going to be a scammer.

A Note About Labeling!

We often use the term ‘scam victim’ in our articles, but this is a convenience to help those searching for information in search engines like Google. It is just a convenience and has no deeper meaning. If you have come through such an experience, YOU are a Survivor! It was not your fault. You are not alone! Axios!

A Question of Trust

At the SCARS Institute, we invite you to do your own research on the topics we speak about and publish, Our team investigates the subject being discussed, especially when it comes to understanding the scam victims-survivors experience. You can do Google searches but in many cases, you will have to wade through scientific papers and studies. However, remember that biases and perspectives matter and influence the outcome. Regardless, we encourage you to explore these topics as thoroughly as you can for your own awareness.

Statement About Victim Blaming

Some of our articles discuss various aspects of victims. This is both about better understanding victims (the science of victimology) and their behaviors and psychology. This helps us to educate victims/survivors about why these crimes happened and to not blame themselves, better develop recovery programs, and to help victims avoid scams in the future. At times this may sound like blaming the victim, but it does not blame scam victims, we are simply explaining the hows and whys of the experience victims have.

These articles, about the Psychology of Scams or Victim Psychology – meaning that all humans have psychological or cognitive characteristics in common that can either be exploited or work against us – help us all to understand the unique challenges victims face before, during, and after scams, fraud, or cybercrimes. These sometimes talk about some of the vulnerabilities the scammers exploit. Victims rarely have control of them or are even aware of them, until something like a scam happens and then they can learn how their mind works and how to overcome these mechanisms.

Articles like these help victims and others understand these processes and how to help prevent them from being exploited again or to help them recover more easily by understanding their post-scam behaviors. Learn more about the Psychology of Scams at www.ScamPsychology.org
