Scammer Grammar

Scammers are always looking for more effective words. Many people have learned to be on their guard, and they’re likely to suspect an overly aggressive phishing phone call from a fake credit card customer service agent speaking accented English. But victims still fall for the bad language use every day!

Online scammers use similar techniques. When texting or emailing their marks, or posting information in fake profiles, or messaging, they often work from “scripts” of prewritten boilerplate language. The most effective conversational gambits are saved and distributed to other scammers in the network, and they cut-and-paste the scripts into their grifts at crucial moments.

BUT THEY SOMETIMES ARE FORCED TO IMPROVISE!

This is where the scammer grammar becomes more obvious.

The following is an example of language we have seen and copied to share their unscripted writing styles:

A Scammer Manifesto!

We Found This From A Scammer Named “Samantha”

This is a Ghana Scammer Impersonating An American Adult Camgirl.

We share it with you because on some level, we think this scammer is actually trying to justify what he does, while also trying to go for a home run in scammer nonsense. On that level, it is certainly award-winning! If you can make your way all the way through it, please leave us your comments.

It Is Presented As It Was Written:

Allow me to introduce myself,i am Samantha and there is nothing so special about me even though with time you could find something special lol… Well why i joined the site, did because it has come to a time in life where have to settle down and have my own family and when i say settle down i mean settle down with the right man a man who is loving, honest and caring, someone who knows what it is to be married, someone who does not cheat..I will like to know  what your intentions are……I hope don’t scare you away from the part where i said i am a missionary as know not everyone likes what do reaching out to the poor and needy etc.Basically i minister to the motherless babies, hiv/aids victims and the beggers on the streets.I took a step with the site, because a friend of mine made it with a wonderful man in her life 2months ago and are now happily married, must say i truely admire their success so far and they are both christians to crown it up so thats why i took a step forward and joined the site How did this all start, was at the age of 6 when my mom came to pick me up at the motherless babies home and took me as her daughter since she never got married and liked kids so happened to be her only child if you know what i mean. At my age of 11 when mom died a friend of hers who stays in canada came and took me over to her place where i joined the ministery and became a missionary and was later chosen to be one of those who will be traveling abroad to minister…I was firstly in London to minister for 2wks afterwhich i was sent to Nigeria Africa where i am presently to do the Lords work.. well africa is a wonderful place and its my first time coming here, i will be here for 2months after which will be going back to canada where i reside but if by his grace find a special man on this dating site and things work for good for us then will relocate for him. As the bible says: Ecclesiastes 4:9-12 Two are better than one, because they have a good return for their work: If one falls down, his friend can help him up.. But pity the man who falls and has no one to help him up! Also, if two lie down together, they will keep warm. But how can one keep warm alone? The one may be overpowered, two can defend themselves..”Now one more thing….Why can’t we ask ourselves why we all have the problem of everlasting marriages/why marriages dont last(high divorce rate i mean)in the USA, this is not because we are all stupid or not emotional, certainly not! Its just simply because most of us don’t take this marriages to the Lord to bless or not concerned about Christianity and its principles on marriage and we dont even value what the bible says about Marriages like my mom always says “she says if you find your wife in a bar, when times are tough, that’s where she will be. If you find your wife through God, when times are tough you will find her on her knees praying..” Now with this don’t you think life will be much more easier for we the Americans? Also we fail to build our relationships on some principles, which are very important and plays a vital role in making a relationship work such as Faith, trust, honesty, dedication,Commitment and also communication,we just tend to jump into it.One thing we shouldn’t complain for is seeing the whole thing working for good and not seeing it as being too good to be true when we get started because when the right time comes in ones life everything begins to work so fast and easy that way we must give thanks to the Almighty and not doubting his will in us,no one is perfect though we all try to work towards perfection though. We need to chat more. wish we could use the phones but bad receptions here will not permit that so usually chat and emails are the best way..If you believe that through Prayer and communication and also dedication that God can make a way in our life dont hesitate to contact me as will be waiting patiently to hear from you till then may the love of God be with you at all time.Grace and Peace

The lesson from this is that even as more scammers become professionalized they are still hiring new poorly educated scammer recruits and it is important to recognize Scammer Grammar when you see it!

Remember: you cannot rely on these examples to be the way your scammer will speak or write! Scammers have vast amounts of money now and actually hire professional telemarketing scriptwriters to help them with what they call their “formats.” This means the language can be as bad as these, or absolutely perfect – it just depends on the scammer group that a victim connects with.

Recently widowed and I was looking for a companion.I paid a reputable dating site Our Time which is For over 50s .Out ofhe 21 men I chatted to over a 2 month period HALF were scammers. I had a steep learning curve which I will share with you in the hope likely victims can spot them too.
    1. Their photographs are never verified ( the website can take a photo of you when on their site)
    2. They are or will try to move you off the site onto WhatsApp I assume they can SELL your phone number on.
    3. They mirror your circumstance ,so husband died of x they tell you same for wife. This was the most emotionally DEVASTATING because they are getting you to empathise with them whilst also bringing back painful memories of your loss.
    4. They want to chat at odd hours it seemed to me
    5. They are always in a bad internet area so can never video date
    6. Their scripts might be GREAT but if you talk about something that is from UK for example and a meme reasonably well known but it hard to check on Google they make mistakes
    7. They are more attentive than REAL MEN! And love bomb you fairly fast .They KNOW YOU ARE VULNERABLE because you told them what they needed in your own profile.
    8. They work in areas that have security so can’t video call and sometimes not even real call
9 Occasionally put they are foreign nationals to explain idiosyncratic way of spelling or speaking through text.
    10. The scammers hardly ever bring sex into the chat as how are they going to provide it? Real men mention it a lot and want to meet up fairly quick……if you get the gist!
Easiest to do was to use a reverse picture search through an app actually several apps!
I told OUR Time a US company owning lots of dating apps that they were breaking UK TRading standards law by not providing the service I paid for eg: a safe environment to meet men , the service I got was an unsafe service to meet scammers. I felt emotionally raped by these scammers. I got my money back and a free month which I declined, all they had to do to make at least minimally safe was to get all members to verify identity through the photograph on the app. They won’t do this as I presume scammers were also paying the same fee I was! Bloody disgraceful.
The above is just my experience and not a definitive guide but hope it helps.

A Note About Labeling!

We often use the term ‘scam victim’ in our articles, but this is a convenience to help those searching for information in search engines like Google. It is just a convenience and has no deeper meaning. If you have come through such an experience, YOU are a Survivor! It was not your fault. You are not alone! Axios!

A Question of Trust

At the SCARS Institute, we invite you to do your own research on the topics we speak about and publish, Our team investigates the subject being discussed, especially when it comes to understanding the scam victims-survivors experience. You can do Google searches but in many cases, you will have to wade through scientific papers and studies. However, remember that biases and perspectives matter and influence the outcome. Regardless, we encourage you to explore these topics as thoroughly as you can for your own awareness.

Statement About Victim Blaming

Some of our articles discuss various aspects of victims. This is both about better understanding victims (the science of victimology) and their behaviors and psychology. This helps us to educate victims/survivors about why these crimes happened and to not blame themselves, better develop recovery programs, and to help victims avoid scams in the future. At times this may sound like blaming the victim, but it does not blame scam victims, we are simply explaining the hows and whys of the experience victims have.

These articles, about the Psychology of Scams or Victim Psychology – meaning that all humans have psychological or cognitive characteristics in common that can either be exploited or work against us – help us all to understand the unique challenges victims face before, during, and after scams, fraud, or cybercrimes. These sometimes talk about some of the vulnerabilities the scammers exploit. Victims rarely have control of them or are even aware of them, until something like a scam happens and then they can learn how their mind works and how to overcome these mechanisms.

Articles like these help victims and others understand these processes and how to help prevent them from being exploited again or to help them recover more easily by understanding their post-scam behaviors. Learn more about the Psychology of Scams at www.ScamPsychology.org
