Answer: Hate is destructive for crime victims because it can make the trauma of the crime even worse. Victim hate can also make it harder for victims to heal and move on from the crime. This is because hate is an intense and negative emotion that can cause people to feel isolated, angry, and fearful. When someone is a victim of a crime, it is already a traumatic experience. If the victim focuses on their hate, this can make the trauma even more difficult to overcome. ♦ If you have questions for SCARS you can send them to us by email to question@AgainstScams.org or in a message to one of our sites or Facebook pages! Answer: Past traumas can affect how a person responds to and copes with future traumas in a few different ways. For example: Past traumas can make a person more likely to experience post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) after a future trauma. People who have experienced trauma in the past are more likely to develop PTSD than those who have not, and they may have a more severe form of the disorder. Past traumas can make a person more sensitive to triggers and reminders of the trauma. People who have experienced trauma in the past may have a lower threshold for being triggered by events or situations that remind them of the trauma. This can make it more difficult for them to cope with future traumas, and it can increase their risk of experiencing symptoms such as flashbacks or panic attacks. Past traumas can affect a person's coping skills and resilience. People who have experienced trauma in the past may have developed coping mechanisms or strategies that are not helpful or healthy. They may also have a reduced ability to cope with stress or adversity, which can make it harder for them to recover from future traumas. Overall, past traumas can have a significant impact on a person's response to and recovery from future traumas. It is important for people who have experienced trauma in the past to seek support and treatment from a mental health professional in order to address any lingering effects of the trauma and to develop healthy coping skills. ♦ If you have questions for SCARS you can send them to us by email to question@AgainstScams.org or in a message to one of our sites or Facebook pages! Answer: NOTE: SCARS cannot offer you legal advice. However, this is generally the process. If you are a victim of a scam involving a money mule, you may be able to take legal action against the money mule. In order to sue a money mule, you will need to first gather evidence of the scam, including any communication you had with the money mule and any information you have about the transfer of funds. You will also need to prove that you were a victim of the scam and that the money mule played a role in it. Once you have gathered this evidence, you can file a lawsuit against the money mule in civil court. In your lawsuit, you will need to show that the money mule was aware that they were participating in a scam and that they willingly assisted in the transfer of funds. If you are able to prove these points, the court may award you damages for your losses. It is important to note that suing a money mule can be difficult, as these individuals are often difficult to track down and may not have the financial resources to pay any damages that are awarded in the case. In addition, the legal process can be time-consuming and costly, so it is important to carefully consider whether pursuing a lawsuit is worth the time and effort. You will need to contact a civil litigator attorney to explore your specific options. Please note: If you were a money mule please report this to your local police immediately, and we recommend that you also consult with an attorney. ♦ If you have questions for SCARS you can send them to us by email to question@AgainstScams.org or in a message to one of our sites or Facebook pages! Answer: Living in denial can be comforting because it allows a person to avoid dealing with difficult or uncomfortable emotions or situations. By denying the reality of a situation, a person can avoid feeling overwhelmed, anxious, or fearful. This can provide temporary relief and a sense of control over the situation. However, it is important to recognize that denial is not a healthy or sustainable way to cope with difficult emotions or situations. By avoiding the reality of the situation, a person is unable to address and resolve the underlying issues, which can lead to longer-term problems and difficulties. Ultimately, facing difficult emotions and situations head-on, with support and help if needed, is the best way to cope with them and move forward in a healthy and constructive way. ♦ If you have questions for SCARS you can send them to us by email to question@AgainstScams.org or in a message to one of our pages! #SCARS #RecoveryPsychology #VictimPsychology #PsychologyOfScams #CrimeVictim #ScamVictim #FraudVictim #HelpingVictims #VictimSupport #VictimRecovery #VictimDenial #Denial ♦ If you have questions for SCARS you can send them to us by email to question@AgainstScams.org or in a message to one of our sites or Facebook pages! Answer: It is important for scam victims to receive trauma counseling because scams can have a significant emotional impact on the victims. These emotions can be overwhelming and can interfere with a person's ability to function normally. The counselor can also help the victim to understand their emotions and to develop coping strategies to manage them. In addition, trauma counseling can help scam victims to rebuild their sense of trust and safety. Scams can cause victims to feel violated and to lose trust in others, which can lead to feelings of isolation and insecurity. There are many reasons why crime victims may feel angry. For example, they may be angry at the person who committed the crime for causing them harm and violating their safety. Answer: Scammers are posing as rental car companies, setting up their own websites, and advertising fake customer service phone numbers, all to convince travelers they’re legit. Then, they’re asking people to pre-pay for the rental — with a gift card or prepaid debit card. To avoid rental car scammers driving off with your money: Research the rental car company by searching for the name of the company and words like “scam,” “complaint,” or “review” to check if other people have had a bad experience. Verify deals with the company directly . If you need customer support, look for contact info on the company’s official website. Don’t use a search engine result. Scammers can pay to place sponsored ads in search results, so they show up at the top or in the sponsored ad section. Pay with a credit card if possible , and never pay with a gift card or prepaid debit card. You can dispute credit card charges, but gift cards and prepaid debit cards can disappear like cash. Answer: Tabnapping is a type of phishing scam that fraudsters use to get people’s personal information. Tabnapping targets people who keep multiple tabs open in their browser, often for long periods of time. The fraudsters then use JavaScript to change the contents and label of an open, but not active, tab to resemble the log-in screen of a bank, email provider or online shopping store. When a user clicks back onto the tab to find the fake log-in screen, they assume that they have been logged out and re-enter their user information and password to log back in. When they enter these details, the personal information provided is sent straight to the fraudsters. Fraudsters can then use this personal information to commit fraud. The url in the browser’s address bar is not necessarily altered by tabnappers, so checking the URL is the legitimate URL of the service provider is not a sufficient precautionary measure. The fraudsters may even put an additional message on the fake log-in screen, saying that the session has timed out and the user needs to re-enter their log-in details. This is a message that appears on legitimate websites, particularly on banks, increasing the likelihood that the user thinks the log-in screen is trustworthy. How Can Tabnapping Be Prevented? Ensure anti-virus and anti-spyware software is up-to-date on your computer and make sure your browser’s filter is switched on and up-to-date. These measures should block malicious sites and legitimate sites that are infected with a phishing attack code. If you’re unsure about whether or not a log-in screen is legitimate, close the tab down, open a new one and type in the legitimate URL of the website you want to log-in to. Follow identity theft crime prevention advice to stay alert to unrecognizable transactions in your name.
