A Note About Labeling!
We often use the term ‘scam victim’ in our articles, but this is a convenience to help those searching for information in search engines like Google. It is just a convenience and has no deeper meaning. If you have come through such an experience, YOU are a Survivor! It was not your fault. You are not alone! Axios!
A Question of Trust
At the SCARS Institute, we invite you to do your own research on the topics we speak about and publish, Our team investigates the subject being discussed, especially when it comes to understanding the scam victims-survivors experience. You can do Google searches but in many cases, you will have to wade through scientific papers and studies. However, remember that biases and perspectives matter and influence the outcome. Regardless, we encourage you to explore these topics as thoroughly as you can for your own awareness.
Statement About Victim Blaming
Some of our articles discuss various aspects of victims. This is both about better understanding victims (the science of victimology) and their behaviors and psychology. This helps us to educate victims/survivors about why these crimes happened and to not blame themselves, better develop recovery programs, and to help victims avoid scams in the future. At times this may sound like blaming the victim, but it does not blame scam victims, we are simply explaining the hows and whys of the experience victims have.
These articles, about the Psychology of Scams or Victim Psychology – meaning that all humans have psychological or cognitive characteristics in common that can either be exploited or work against us – help us all to understand the unique challenges victims face before, during, and after scams, fraud, or cybercrimes. These sometimes talk about some of the vulnerabilities the scammers exploit. Victims rarely have control of them or are even aware of them, until something like a scam happens and then they can learn how their mind works and how to overcome these mechanisms.
Articles like these help victims and others understand these processes and how to help prevent them from being exploited again or to help them recover more easily by understanding their post-scam behaviors. Learn more about the Psychology of Scams at www.ScamPsychology.org

I have yet to be scammed, for I have no money. However, after reading Eileen Crisanos post it was like I was run over by the very tank he (supposedly uses).
I just got the million and gold watch story the other day! When give him the impression it’s hard to believe he gets all pissy!
This jackals even had his (haha if one)daughter email me. She is supposedly 17.
Don’t worry making them work for nothing
I would like to see how many women gave to William B Garrett
It would be in the thousands, since many scammer teams use his photos. More information is not publicly available.
William Burke Garrett hasn’t asked for money, but a smooth talker. I’ve read a lot on these scammers & know he is one…..Also, another name to be aware of is Gen. Thomas Lynn Solhjem……He’s a young black male looking for money. Beware of these guys. Ladies, don’t feel like a fool. these guys take innocent women & use them for only money purposes. Don’t reply to any of them. Thank you.
This guy is at it again. He just tried to contact me. I’m married too. What a detestable person.
Someone is at it again. My mother believes she’s in a relationship with him and won’t listen to anyone, even though they’ve told her his photo is used in most scams. So lost as to what to do!
It is very difficult, but these articles will give you guidance: https://romancescamsnow.com/dating-scams/for-family-friends-article-catalog/
Also we offer a support group for family members in your situation where you can speak with others who have been through it: https://www.facebook.com/groups/scars.support.for.families
Thank God I Had enough sense to check this person out. I was shocked to see his photo here. I am So thankful for your website it enabled me to see what was going on. I never lost any money but boy he was a smooth talker he knew all the buttons to push. This just ended today after I found the informatio on him. I feel like such a fool but I was blessed I didn’t lose any money in the process. What a shame to prey on people.

Have been chatting to him and he has not asked for money
My philosophy is ‘if it too good to be true – it is’
I have googled William and the person I have been talking to has been making up different stories
This persons written knowledge of the English language is not very good and I feel as if I have been taking to 2 different people

William B. Garrett III scamed my sister out of $2,500. She lives in Lawrencevill, GA. 1/16 / 2020
Of course, he did not. His photos were stolen, his identity stolen and used by scammers. Please take the time to learn how scamming works before you falsely accuse someone.
