# Lottery and Sweepstakes Scam Simulator

The prize that costs everything · A SCARS Institute text adventure

## Before You Begin

This is a text adventure, in the spirit of the classic computer games. Each scene tells you what is happening, and you choose what to do from a list of answers. There is nothing to type and no time limit, so take each step at your own pace.

The story follows the real path of a lottery and sweepstakes scam: a surprise win, a fee to collect it, and then another, and another. Resist it, give in to it, or do some of each, and see where each choice leads. A panel at the top shows the prize you are promised beside what you have actually paid.

**A note for survivors.** If you have lost money to a prize or lottery scam, parts of this story will feel familiar. You are free to stop at any time. Nothing here is about blame: these criminals call thousands of people every day, and they are very good at what they do.

This simulator saves nothing and sends nothing. It runs entirely in your browser, and the money in it is make-believe.
