# RSN™ Anti-Scam Tip: Online Dating Dangers - Is It Really A Verified Profile?

## Many dating sites have added verification features to help site members feel safer about scammers.

### Unfortunately, It Does The Exact Opposite.

There are an unlimited number of FREE phone numbers (even Google offers a free phone service) and other online services for online texting purposes out there, such as [http://receive-sms-online.com/](http://receive-sms-online.com/)

These services allow scammers to "verify" a phone number that they don't own, to receive verification codes. This "Verifies" them to the site, and then displays that they are a verified member. However, they are not really, are they?

Online Dating Verification itself is a Scam

The result of this is individuals become more susceptible to scammers because they believe that these verifications mean something that they do not.

So be warned, just because an Online Dating Website or App Profile is verified, does not mean the person has been! Never trust anyone online unless you personally know them or unless you verify them by other means!

## Always Look For The Warning Signs, And Treat Verifications On Dating Websites As Just Another Way Scammers Get Past Our Defenses!

### FAQ: How Do You Properly Report Scammers?

It is essential that law enforcement knows about scams & scammers, even though there is nothing (in most cases) that they can do.

**Always report scams involving money lost or where you received money to:**

1. **Local Police** - ask them to take an "informational" police report - say you need it for your insurance
2. Your **National Police or FBI** ([www.IC3.gov](http://www.IC3.gov))
3. The **Scars Worldwide Reporting Network** [HERE](https://www.romancescamsnow.com/how-to-report-scammers-fraudsters/) or on [www.Anyscam.com](http://www.Anyscam.com)

This helps your government understand the problem, and allows law enforcement to add scammers on watch lists worldwide.
