An emergency phone scam · A SCARS Institute text adventure

## Before You Begin

This is a text adventure, in the spirit of the classic computer games. Each scene tells you what is happening, and you choose what to do from a list of answers. There is nothing to type and no time limit, so take each step at your own pace.

The story follows the real path of a grandparent scam, an emergency phone call from someone pretending to be a grandchild in trouble. It happens fast, over hours instead of weeks. Resist it, give in to it, or do some of each, and see where each choice leads. Every playthrough draws a different story.

**A note for survivors.** If you have received a call like this, parts of this story will feel familiar. You are free to stop at any time. Nothing here is about blame: these callers are skilled criminals who use a grandparent’s love against them every day.

This simulator saves nothing and sends nothing. It runs entirely in your browser, and the money in it is make-believe.
