# Sextortion Scam Simulator

A SCARS Institute text adventure for adults · RomanceScamsNOW.com

## Please Read Before You Begin

This is a text adventure about sextortion, a crime in which criminals threaten to share intimate images or recordings of a person unless they pay. Each scene tells you what is happening, and you choose what to do from a list of answers. There is nothing to type and no time limit.

**This simulator is for adults, and it contains distressing material.** It includes:

- Online flirtation that turns into threats, blackmail, and demands for money.
- Threats to send private images or recordings to family, coworkers, and friends, and in some stories, to reveal a person’s sexuality.
- Intense shame, fear, and pressure, and a moment in which the character feels hopeless.

Nothing intimate is ever described or shown. Every scene of that kind cuts away, and every character in this story is an adult. Still, the fear these crimes create is real, and parts of this story will feel very real.

**For survivors.** If you have experienced sextortion or image-based abuse, this simulator is likely to bring up painful memories. Consider playing it with a trusted person or your counselor, or skipping it entirely.

A **Take a Break** button stays at the top of every scene. Use it any time to pause or end the simulator. This simulator saves nothing and sends nothing, and the money in it is make-believe.

If you are in crisis right now, or have thoughts of ending your life, please do not play. In the United States, call or text 988 to reach the Suicide and Crisis Lifeline, or call your local emergency number.

I am an adult. I understand what this simulator contains, and I want to continue.

## Who Are You in This Story?

## Choose a Story

Tip: on a keyboard, press the number beside an answer to choose it.

Pause here. Nothing is lost.

This story is only a simulation. No one you love is in danger, and you are safe where you are right now.

Try this for a minute: press your feet into the floor and notice the ground holding you. Look around and name five things you see. Breathe in slowly, then breathe out even more slowly, three times.

When you feel steady, return to the story or end it here. Both are good choices.

If you are in crisis, call or text 988 in the United States, or call your local emergency number.
