In One Of Nigeria’s Largest Sweeps Following Ritual killings: Police arrest 51 Teenage ‘Yahoo Boys’
Maybe the tide is finally turning in Nigeria – at least at the street level!
Police in Nigeria’s Delta State has arrested 51 ‘Yahoo boys,’ aged between 15 and 19, suspected to be ritual killers, to increase their wealth.
They were apprehended after Governor Ifeanyi Okowa ordered the security agencies to clamp down on ritual killers, known as ‘Yahoo boys’.
The governor gave the order to serve justice on the killers of Miss Elozino Ogege, a 300 level student of Mass Communication at the Delta State University (DELSU), Abraka, who was brutally murdered by suspected Yahoo boys for rituals.
Since Okowa’s directive, police and men of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), as well as the Department of State Services (DSS), has beefed up security across the state to stop the menace and forestall further killings a number of arrests have been made.
The state Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), DSP Andrew Aniamaka, at the command headquarters in Asaba yesterday, said no fewer than 51 teenagers, who cruised around the state in exotic cars, suspected to have been acquired through questionable means and wearing intimidating heir-styles, had been apprehended and are undergoing interrogations.
He said: “This is another trending crime in the state. And one we will put an end to!”
Over 50 teenagers, of 15 to 19 years of age, have been apprehended by the command’s Eagle-Net. Certain teenagers who have mansions in the state have been interrogated to discourage shortcuts to wealth.”
Aniamaka said sensitization programs had been presented to local preachers, Christian and Muslim leaders, on the key role they must play to stem the tide of these crimes among youth and to de-emphasize this prosperity gospel as against integrity and hard work.
