What Is The Best Way To Report Fake Profiles On Facebook

A VICTIM’S GUIDE TO HOW TO REPORT SCAMMERS

WHAT IS THE MOST EFFECTIVE WAY TO REPORT SCAMMERS ON FACEBOOK?

The most effective solution is a combination of intelligent and productive actions:

1) First report all scammers on the SCARS website www.AnyScam.com – this displays them on over 800 locations on the web and in social media – plus it reports them to Facebook (though many are ignored by FB) – this provides a permanent record of the scammer away from FB’s reach since they tend to delete anti-scam pages

2) Next, report the profile directly on the profile itself. Only about 1 in 20 will be deleted by this action alone since FB never actually investigates to see the actions of the profile.

We recommend that you report the profile as using a fake name, this triggers an identification check by Facebook.

3) After you have done #1 & #2 – send an email to TWO ADDRESSES: security@fb.com AND legal@fb.com using your personal email – there is no risk to you in doing this, and if 1&2 above have been done, this is the closer – meaning it increases the likelihood that FB will act by 1,000%

With all three, FB will have received reports about the profile from multiple independent sources.

You can increase the likelihood even more by helping to report again scammers that appear on this FB Page – report each one, and with enough reports it will be gone!

Note that just reporting a fake profile in a group or a comment someplace on Facebook is a waste of time. This is because very few people will see it (in fact only people who are already victims who know enough not to friend strangers), and IN FACT can get you in trouble with FB because it appears to be cyber-bullying. If a scammer complains and reports YOU you are at risk of losing YOUR profile. We have lost enough profiles to have this down to a science.

THIS SIMPLE THREE STEP PROCESS WORKS IF YOU USE IT.

Ultimately, how we report is far more important than anything else. No one group has enough manpower to report many scammers, but together we are an Anti-Scam Army!

WHAT ABOUT FRIEND REQUESTS FORM STRANGERS?

SCARS created a solution for that too called COBALT ALERTS

Reporting a profile on the Cobalt Alert on www.AnyScam.com or one of the RSN FB Page forms will post an Alert on hundreds of places in FB, so that if someone searches for that profile they will see the alert. We have no idea how many have been saved in this way, but we know of hundreds at least.

Cobalt Alerts will appear in seconds on Facebook at the most important time when the scammer is actively trying to recruit new victims! But it is also important to do 2&3 above as well.

FAQ: How Do You Properly Report Scammers?

It is essential that law enforcement knows about scams & scammers, even though there is nothing (in most cases) that they can do.

Always report scams involving money lost or where you received money to:

  1. Local Police – ask them to take an “informational” police report – say you need it for your insurance
  2. Your National Police or FBI (www.IC3.gov)
  3. The Scars Worldwide Reporting Network HERE or on www.Anyscam.com

This helps your government understand the problem, and allows law enforcement to add scammers on watch lists worldwide.
